Paul Jernigan is Of Counsel to the firm. Since 2000, Paul has practiced exclusively in the healthcare regulatory and transactional arenas. For the past 15 years, Paul held various operational and in-house counsel positions within Universal American Corp. (formerly NYSE: UAM) with progressively more responsibilities, ultimately serving as the Deputy General Counsel prior to UAM being acquired by WellCare Health Plans in 2017. Paul also served as the General Counsel for various other lines of business, such as UAM’s accountable care organizations, which included as many as 35 MSSP and Next Generation ACOs, its management services organization operations, and its independent physician associations.
During his tenure at UAM, Paul also served as not only a senior legal advisor, but as a trusted business advisor to senior management and governing body, as the privacy officer, and chief insurance and regulatory attorney. Paul is sought of for his experience of being a strategic partner to health care organizations; not merely as legal counsel.
When Paul is not spending time with his wife and 3 children, he spends his time representing Medicare Advantage payors, physicians and physician groups, accountable care organizations, independent practice associations, and other organization in the healthcare arena, including affiliations, mergers, acquisitions, state and federal regulatory compliance, fraud and abuse compliance, joint ventures arrangements, value-based purchasing arrangements, and HIPAA compliance.
