Republican Nominee for Virginia Governor Chosen

May 11, 2021

The Republican nominee for Governor was chosen by nomination this week.  Glen Youngkin won in round six of the convention.  He beat Peter Snyder 54.71% to 45.29%.  Former Speaker of the House Kirk Cox was beat in Round four and current Senator Amanda Chase lost in Round five.  Youngkin is the former CEO of the Carlyle Group a global investment firm.  He funded most of his campaign.

Current Delegate Jason Miyares won the nomination for Attorney General.  He beat Chuck Smith a Virginia Beach attorney.  Mr. Smith has asked for a re-count, but the Republican Party of Virginia does not quality for a recount because it was far wider than the 1% threshold.  Miyares received 51.7% to Smith’s 48.3%.

Votes are being tallied today for the Lt. Governor nomination.
