Michael Essig has spent his legal career defending businesses and individuals from lawsuits and helping them understand and navigate the litigation process, something that is often daunting when faced with your first lawsuit. Growing up with parents and siblings as physicians and healthcare professionals, he understands their desire to help people and knows that medical malpractice lawsuits can be emotionally draining for healthcare professionals, serving as a significant distraction from their daily work. He brings this knowledge along with his legal experience in his spirited defense of healthcare providers in courts around the state, realizing that getting the right resolution is often more important to healthcare providers than an easy resolution.
In addition to defending healthcare providers, Mr. Essig has a wide range of litigation experience involving commercial transportation, products liability, general tort defense, and insurance-related litigation, handling matters in state and federal court from start to finish. Always working on the side of defendants, he has a keen sense of clients’ goals in litigation and focuses on this rather than offering a rote performance of the legal process regardless of what a client wants. A graduate of the University of Virginia and University of Richmond School of Law, he is a Virginia native who resides in Henrico with his fellow attorney and wife and their two children.
