For nearly thirty years, Sara Bugbee has been defending clients in federal and state courts in Virginia. For Sara, it is an honor to bring that experience and insight to Hancock Daniel’s prestigious team of committed lawyers representing healthcare providers and hospital systems. “Doctors and nurses give their heart and soul to patients and make enormous personal sacrifices to provide patient care. Prior to joining Hancock Daniel, Sara had the privilege of serving for over twenty years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Virginia. She represented the United States’ interest in civil defensive and affirmative litigation. Sara prosecuted many fraud cases under the False Claims Act, so she is uniquely prepared to help providers navigate regulatory compliance matters, government investigations, and qui tam litigation against whistleblowers. She has also represented hundreds of federal employees in constitutional tort cases alleging excessive force and other civil rights violations, so she is no stranger to complex litigation. Prior to becoming an AUSA, Sara was an associate in the commercial litigation group at Woods Rogers in Roanoke.
Sara enjoys distilling complicated matters down to narrow legal issues, which are more easily resolved without litigation, or if litigation is necessary, through a motion to the court, mediation, or trial. “My goal is to drill down to the root of the dispute quickly and efficiently, and with the least disruption to my client’s primary responsibilities and interests. I love helping clients choose a path forward that is in their ultimate best interest.”
