Jonathan M. Sumrell

Jonathan Sumrell regularly helps healthcare providers navigate tough obstacles that stand in the way of smooth business operations. “My strength is pairing in depth research skills with practical advice,” he says. “My goal is to give clients legally sound recommendations that work in the real world. The challenge is that healthcare is in a constant state of change. This means the advice I give clients constantly evolves. I’m dedicated to staying on top of developing law and best practices.”

Jonathan focuses on employment issues and assists clients in drafting and revising physician employment agreements, employee policies and procedures, and other operational policies. He handles investigations and federal and state litigation for all varieties of employment and healthcare-related disputes.

Prior to entering law school, Jonathan served as a deputy press secretary for a U.S. Senator. During law school, he was Manuscripts Editor for the Richmond Journal of Law and the Public Interest, was elected as a Justice of the Honor Council and was a member of the Client Counseling and Negotiation Board. Before entering private practice, Jonathan completed a clerkship with the Circuit Court of Henrico County, Virginia. “Though I am more specialized now, my first few years as an attorney were spent clerking and in general practice,” he says. “That experience gave me an understanding of the law beyond narrow practice areas.”
